Blueberry MALTED Belgian Waffles with Maple Syrup and Whipped Cream - 52 Breakfast Ideas

Pin It Now!

Yeap, MALTED, like the olde malt shoppe gang drank in their milk shakes.

Malt powder is easy to find (in the grocery shelves, next to the hot chocolate mix).  Malt is a grain that has been dried after a water soaked germinating process.  This changes the starches in the grain into a natural sweetness... Malt.  Used in sweet malt vinegar, most beers and whiskeys have some malt and it's the malt powder that makes Ovaltine so good!

But mix that same malt powder into a scratch made (but easy) waffle batter and you have a wonderful extra sweet waffle.  Mix in a colorful handful of blueberries and yo have the BEST waffles around.

a good waffle deserves the full Bed and Breakfast treatment with Maple Syrup, and for an extra treat, have a dollop of whipped cream handy.

Don't be stingy, load up the blueberries in the batter.  As the blueberries cook, their natural sugars explode into the batter making every bite a fruit filled treet.

It really is simple and best of all these simple additions turn something ordinary into something AMAZING!

OK... Here's what I did...

Blueberry Malted Belgian Waffles with Maple Syrup and Whipped Cream

Ingredients
  • 2-1/4 Cups Flour
  • 2 TBS Sugar
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 1/2 Cup Olive Oil
  • 1-1/2 Cups Whole Milk
  • 1 Large Egg
  • 1/4 Cup Malted Milk Powder
  • 2 TBS Baking Powder
  • 1 Cup Blueberries, Washed, drained well... Plus Extra for Garnish
  • Served with Powdered Sugar, Fresh Whipped Cream and Maple Syrup
Cooking Directions
  1. Prepare waffle iron according to directions, pre-heat and spray with non-stick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients except the blueberries and whipped cram and maple syrup. DO NOT OVER MIX. Gently fold strokes until formed into batter. Then add blueberries and fold to evenly mix.
  3. Add batter to iron and cook...
  4. Serve warm, Sprinkle of powdered sugar... Serve with Maple Syrup and Whipped cream on the side, garnish with additional Blueberries and ENJOY!
